Affiliate Marketing - What is it actually all about?

Affiliate marketing is basically a combination of space selling and marketing, from the point of view of publishers and advertisers respectively. It involves an affiliate network, which is responsible for being a common ground to both these parties, and helps both in fulfilling their requirements. Affiliate marketing has been around since more than 10 years now, in its TRUE form, and is a major revenue generator for publishers, and a fantastic source to get sales/leads/clicks for the advertisers. The main benefit of associating oneself with an affiliate network is that there are so many options available to market your product to the right audience. Almost all networks in the present day reveal a list of their publishers, hence making it extremely easy for a potential advertiser to see whether his target audience is present among the current publishers' database. Further, the joining criteria for publishers encompasses of the current programs running on a network, frequency of payouts, currently registered merchants, and so on. Simply put, the affiliate network offers prospective advertisers a chance to feature their promotions on interested publishers who are willing to rent out space on their website.

As a network, it is extremely important to take care of a couple of things. First, the payouts for merchants must be taken care of as an utmost priority. Many times, it so happens that publisher take time to make payments. In such a case, if possible, the network can vouch for giving its own funds for the time being, and the same can be reimbursed when the actual payment from the publisher comes. Further, it must always be kept in mind that a retained advertiser/publisher is much better than a new one, since he has already used your services and is more likely to continue than a new one who also has many other options. It must also be observed from time to time that if an advertiser is continuously making delays in payments, he should be contacted and made to stop this practice, sterner steps include imposing fines on every delayed payment, temporarily suspending his account, and if the problem persists, his account should permanently be deleted, since the quality of publishers and merchants on a network is the most important retaining factor for any existing/new entrant to the same.
